1. For many years, FAMIC has carried out inspections and tests related to livestock feed and feed additives, inspections of feed facilities to prevent the occurrence of BSE, and formulation of Analytical Standards of Feeds (official methods). In May 2009, at the General Assembly of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH), we were designated as a Collaborating Center for Animal Feed Safety and Analysis. This recognized our past inspection results and high analytical capabilities, and it was the first time in the world that we were designated as a Collaborating Center in the field of feed.

2. International efforts to ensure the safety of livestock products are becoming increasingly important as the international distribution of feed and feed ingredients continues to progress. As a collaborating center, FAMIC will strive to ensure the feed safety not only in Japan but also in the world through the following activities.

(1) Collection and dissemination of information on feed safety and analysis
(2) Cooperation with international harmonization of feed safety and analysis
(3) Technical support through accepting trainees from WOAH member countries and dispatching staff
